(February 24, 1921 to June 07, 2009 ) Resident of Garvin, Oklahoma Obituary: Leavurn Melton, 88, of Garvin, OK passed away June 7, 2009 at DeQueen, Arkansas. She was born February 24, 1921 in Chillicothe, Texas to T.M. Thurmon and Trudy Bond Thurmon. Leavurn had lived in McCurtain County since 1958, coming from West Texas. She served in Women’s Army Corp during World War II, was a retired Beauty Operator, a member of the Valliant Church of Christ and enjoyed sewing, cooking, and being with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thurman and Trudy Thurman, her husband, Grady Melton in 1993, one brother, Bud Thurmon and one sister, Levena Thurmon. Leavurn leaves to cherish her memory one son, Larry Melton and wife, Debbie of Garvin, OK; five brothers, Cole Thurmon of Seattle, Washington; Flake Thurmon of Centerville, Texas; Neal Thurmon of Amhurst, Texas; Troy Thurmon and Gary Thurmon, of Lubbock, Texas; three sisters, Joyce Despain of Charlottsville, South Carolina; Norma Myers of Brentwood, Tennessee and Monya Jackson of Wichita, Kansas; one grandson, Joseph Melton of DeQueen, Arkansas; and one granddaughter, Trudy Melton of Ada, Oklahoma and a special friend “Sweetie.” |
