THURSDAY, SEPT. 8, 2011 NORWOOD-NATION CHAPEL IDABEL, OK SERVICES: 2:00 P.M., FRIDAY, SEPT. 9, 2011 MARY HERRON CONFERENCE CENTER-at THE MUSEUM OF THE RED RIVER IDABEL, OK Obituary: Rowland Clark, age 67, of Garvin, Oklahoma, a well known rancher, steer wrestler and pipeline inspector passed from this life Tuesday, September 6, 2011 in Idabel, OK. Rowland was born January 26, 1944 in Clarksville, Texas. Rowland was reverend by all that knew him. In 1973, he and his wife, Loretha Poteet were married in Houston, Texas while competing in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He loved spending time telling stories to his friends, and they were many.... Rowland was inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2011. After graduation from High School, he traveled to Hugo, Ok to learn the art of steer wrestling from Todd Whatley. Clark joined the RCA (Rodeo Cowboy Association) in 1962. In time he begin traveling with Billy Williams of Clarksville, Texas and riding CR Boucher's horse, Duke. Other good horses he won lot of money were James Durham's "Red'" and Herb Dalton's "Ole Blue". During this time he was running the ranch at Clarksville, Texas, which kept his time divided. Rowland also competed in the Wild Horse Races. He can remember winning at Burwell, Nebraska. Even though he broke his leg at the Phoenix rodeo, they won the go-around. Whenever Wild Cow Milking was an event he entered. The last time Rowland tried his hand at this event was at Hugo, at the age of 55. He and his son Clint won the event. Although he retired from rodeo competion, he was always active in the rodeo world. He was a PRCA Gold Card member, belonging to the Rodeo Historical Society, the Rodeo Cowboy Alumni Association, and was a volunteer with the Cowboy Reunion held in Las Vegas during the Wrangler National Finals. After retiring from ranching, he continued to work all over the world as a welding inspector. Rowland was a member of the 798 Pipeliner's Union. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Melissa Clark. Rowland leaves to cherish his memory; wife, Loretha Clark, of Garvin, OK; one son, Clint Clark and wife Lindsay of Idabel, Ok; one daughter, Retha McKee and husband, Mike of Foreman, AR; one brother, Jim Clark and wife Linda of Clarksville, Texas, two grandchildren, Lauren McKee and Clinton Clark; one brother in-law Robert Poteet Victory and wife, Terry of Santa Fe, New Mexico; one niece, Ann Clark Billberry of Garden City, Kansas ; and one nephew, Jim Clark of Clarksville, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p., Thursday, September 8, 2011 atorwood-Nation Funeral Home. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday September 9, 2011 in the Mary Herron Conference Center at the Museum Of The Red River, Idabel, OK with Larry Brinkley and Donna McSpadden officiating. Interment will be on the Clark Ranch. |

I was saddened when learning about Rowland. It wasn't in the paper until the day of the funeral or I would have attended .I realize contact was lost when Lelia passed away but always held Rowland and Jim in high reguards. My prayers are with you all ! Sherry ,& Allen Powers

Loretha and Clint, we just wanted to let you know that we will be keeping you in our thoughts and prayers and to let you know how much we thought of Rowland....he was such a joy to be around...he certainly made all the Cowboy Reunions fun...he will be greatly missed!!!!
