Obituary:
Margarette Derryberry, age 91, of Idabel passed away Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009 at her home. She was born January 11, 1918 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Ben and Pearl Suberly. Both parents preceded Margarette in death when she was an infant, and she was raised by her grandparents, aunts and uncles in Vinita, OK and on a farm in Spencer, OK.

Margarette graduated from the University of Oklahoma and moved to Idabel in 1939 where she taught home economics and was senior class sponsor. She married Joe Kirk in 1940 and together they had two daughters, Susan and Kathy. Joe preceded her in death in 1960. In 1964, Margarette married Herbert Derryberry and with this marriage gained a third beloved daughter, Sara Sue. Herbert preceded her in death in 1989, and her daughter Kathy Kirk died in 1994.

Margarette was a businesswoman, working side by side with Joe at Kirk's Department Store and with Herbert at H & M Marine. She was friendly and outgoing and a natural at meeting the public. She loved a good joke, cooking, her friends, her cats, and above all, her family. She was a person of strong faith and was affiliated with St. Luke's Episcopal Church.

Margarette leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Susan Greene and husband Mike of Idabel; daughter Sara Sue Norwood of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Christy Holland and husband Tip of Oklahoma City and their sons, Hank, T.J. and Sam; Paul Herbert Norwood and wife Angela of Midwest City and their children Coby and Carly; Michael Greene of Dallas; brother-in-law Stephen Kirk and wife Charlotte of Leawood, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves many friends; special among them are Saundra Womack, Tina Jones, Debbie Breitling, Evelyn Holman, Lycrecia Hicks, and Sue Langley.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Idabel or to the charity of your choice.
